Situation

I was the project head for a university case competition that required coordinating a team of five over three months. The topic was supply chain optimization, and we had to submit a 20-page report and deliver a final presentation.

Task

I had to ensure we developed a winning strategy while managing logistics, deadlines, and team dynamics, all within a limited budget.

Action

I applied PLOC: Planned by breaking the task into research, analysis, and presentation phases with weekly milestones. Led by organizing brainstorming sessions and rotating facilitation duties to build ownership; I motivated a teammate who wanted to quit after a setback by acknowledging his contributions and adjusting his workload. Organized by assigning roles based on strengths (quantitative modeling, writing, slide design) and creating a shared drive with clear version control. Controlled by setting checkpoints every Friday to review progress against plan; when we missed an early milestone, I replanned the remaining weeks with buffer time. I kept a risk log and shared it openly.

Result

We placed second out of 20 teams, and my team members reported feeling engaged and clear about expectations. One teammate later asked me to lead a start-up project outside school.
