Situation

This is not a STAR per se, but I can share my motivation. I've been following SMC's journey from its brewery roots to becoming a Php27.8B diversified conglomerate. In my economics classes, we analyzed how SMC's expansion into infrastructure, power, and food created stability. I see the Management Trainee Program as a rare opportunity to understand not just one business, but the interconnectedness of multiple industries.

Task

My goal is to become a strategic leader capable of managing complex businesses. The rotational structure of the program across different business functions aligns perfectly with that ambition, because I want to experience first-hand how market dynamics affect each unit differently.

Action

To prepare, I've studied SMC's annual reports and recent projects, like the MRT-7 and the New Manila International Airport. I also connected with an SMC employee on LinkedIn who shared how the mentoring and project-based learning shaped their career. I learned that the program provides structured coaching and exposure to senior leaders.

Result

If accepted, I am confident I can absorb knowledge quickly and contribute meaningfully during my rotations. Ultimately, I want to grow within SMC, whether in the food group or infrastructure, and help drive the next phase of its expansion.
