Situation

In my last role as a Senior Brand Strategist, I noticed a junior associate who had sharp analytical skills but lacked confidence in client-facing situations, which limited her growth.

Task

My goal was to coach her to lead a small internal project presentation and eventually handle portions of client calls, building her communication and strategic thinking skills.

Action

I started by having her shadow me in client meetings and debriefing afterwards to discuss key strategic choices. I then assigned her to lead the data analysis for a quarterly brand review and present findings to our internal team first, providing feedback on her storytelling. Gradually, I let her present the competitive analysis section in actual client meetings, first by co-presenting, then solo with me in the room. I also enrolled her in the agency's learning platform courses on presentation skills and gave her a copy of 'The Pyramid Principle' to structure her logic.

Result

She successfully led the competitive analysis portion of three major client presentations within six months, receiving positive mention from the client, and was promoted to Associate Marketing Manager a year later, and her growth freed me up to focus on higher-level strategy.
