Bakit ka nag-apply sa UFLP, and not just any other management trainee programme? What makes Unilever's purpose and the Filipino market special to you?

Situation

When I started researching management trainee programmes in my final year, I had offers to apply to several FMCG companies. But I felt many of them only talked about sales growth, and I wanted a company that genuinely linked business success to improving everyday Filipino lives.

Task

I needed to decide which programme aligned with my personal values and gave me the broadest exposure to different business functions while allowing me to grow as a purposeful leader.

Action

I spent time reading Unilever's 'Win with Purpose' framework and how it manifests in the Philippines, from the Surf 'Wais na Misis' campaign to the way Knorr sources local ingredients from smallholder farmers. I also talked to two UFLP alumni who shared how the programme's rotations (Go-to-Market, Supply Chain, etc.) gave them a holistic view of the business. I realized that Unilever's concept of Malasakit isn't just marketing; it's shown in the way they treat employees and communities.

Result

I concluded UFLP was the only programme that combined accelerated leadership development with a genuine commitment to Filipino society, not just lip service. That's why I didn't apply anywhere else once I got the UFLP invitation.
