Situation

In my internship at a small marketing agency, my manager suddenly asked me to create an interactive dashboard for a client presentation using Power BI, a tool I had never used before. The presentation was in five days, and the client expected live data filters.

Task

I needed to learn Power BI basics and build a functional dashboard with sample data in less than a week, while still handling my other tasks.

Action

First, I spent two hours watching a beginner's tutorial on YouTube and Microsoft Learn. I then set up a practice file using the agency's old spreadsheet data. I focused only on the features I needed: importing data, basic visualizations, and slicers. When I got stuck on the date hierarchy, I reached out to a friend who studied IT and did a 30-minute screen-share session. I stayed back one extra hour each day to practice and built a simple draft by day three, which I showed to my manager for early feedback. She suggested adding a comparison chart, so I learned that quickly the next day.

Result

The dashboard was ready on time. The client loved the interactive elements, and my manager later gave me a project certificate recognizing my initiative. I was able to use that skill in my thesis data analysis later as well.
