Task

I volunteered to tutor her and needed to teach the logic of debits and credits in a way that made sense without accounting jargon, so she could pass the next exam.

Action

I created a simple analogy using a sari-sari store: buying inventory meant adding goods (debit) and reducing cash (credit). I drew a T-account on a whiteboard with stickers representing assets and expenses, and used colored markers to trace how each transaction affected both sides. After each mini-lesson, I gave her a short practice set and asked her to explain it back to me in her own words.

Result

After three one-hour sessions, she scored 85% on the next exam, up from 50%. She told me the stickers and the store analogy made the concept stick, and she later recommended my method to her classmates.
