Situation

Growing up, our family sari-sari store's bestselling items were Jack 'n Jill snacks and Great Taste coffee. I watched how URC products moved faster when we displayed them near the counter, fascinated by the invisible pull of brand loyalty.

Task

I needed to decide between a pure finance rotation program and URC's MT program, which offered cross-functional exposure. I had to articulate why FMCG, specifically URC, was my priority.

Action

I researched the MT program thoroughly: the 18-month duration, the four tracks, the B.I.T.E. case competition. I also spoke with a URC alumnus from my school who is now a Sales Area Manager. From this, I identified that FMCG rewards agility and consumer closeness; qualities I built during my leadership of a campus bazaar that sold local products. I also reflected that URC's 'family-style' culture, as shared by the alumnus, matched my value of open mentorship over a cutthroat environment. I then prepared a short narrative linking my sari-sari store observation to my desire to understand snack brand strategy end to end.
