Why are you interested in joining Meralco as a Business Analyst, and what do you know about the scale and impact of its Customer Information System?

Situation

After three years as a BA in the telecommunications industry, I wanted to transition into a sector where my work has a direct and tangible impact on people's daily lives. I began researching utility companies and found that Meralco's digital transformation, particularly the CIS modernization, was the most ambitious in the country.

Task

My goal was to understand how my skills in requirements analysis and UAT could add value to a large-scale system that serves over 8 million customers across Metro Manila and surrounding provinces.

Action

I studied publicly available materials, such as Meralco's annual reports and news about its smart meter rollout. I spoke with a former Meralco project manager to learn about the operational complexity of managing billing, service interruptions, and field work through a single system. I mapped my own experience in reporting and SQL to the job description's need for report specification and UAT, and I prepared examples of how I had handled similar challenges in telecoms but at a smaller scale.

Result

This preparation confirmed my desire to be part of a team that keeps the lights on, literally and figuratively, and made me confident I can contribute to the CIS project's success. I am excited about the opportunity to learn from seasoned utility professionals.
