Situation

Growing up in a large family in a small province, my parents ran a small sari-sari store. I often helped after school, observing how they treated every customer with patience and respect, even when sales were slow or customers were difficult.

Task

I had to learn to manage multiple responsibilities, helping the family business while keeping up with schoolwork, and to get along with siblings and relatives who often had different opinions on how things should be done.

Action

I started by listening carefully to each family member's perspective during disagreements about the store operations. Then, I would summarize the key points and propose a compromise, like rotating roles so everyone felt heard. For example, when my older brother wanted to extend store hours but my sister thought it would be too tiring, I suggested a trial week with extended hours on weekends only, then we reviewed the results together. This approach taught me the importance of collaboration and respecting others' input.

Result

The trial weekend hours increased sales by about 15% without burning anyone out, and it became our permanent schedule. More importantly, my family grew more united in running the business, and I learned that patience and compromise lead to better team outcomes.
