Situation

I was compiling the monthly operations summary for one of our global Pharma accounts, and a stakeholder from the European supply chain team insisted on including a set of metrics that I believed were misleading because the data sources hadn't been fully validated yet.

Task

I needed to resolve the disagreement professionally without damaging the working relationship, while also ensuring the final report met our quality standards.

Action

I set up a quick video call to understand their perspective rather than continuing an email thread. I listened first, then calmly explained our data validation protocol and showed them the discrepancy in the numbers. I proposed a compromise: we would publish the standard report without those metrics for now, and I would fast-track the validation process so we could include a corrected version in the following week's addendum. I also offered to present the addendum to their team to clarify the context.

Result

The stakeholder agreed, and once the validated data was ready, it actually supported their original position, which strengthened our credibility. They later praised my diligence, and our collaboration became more streamlined for future reports.
