Situation

In my final year, I was the project lead for a university research study on consumer behavior in the Philippine e-commerce market. We used multiple regression analysis, and I needed to present our findings to a panel that included our department dean and a business sponsor who had no background in statistics.

Task

My task was to make the statistical methodology and findings accessible without oversimplifying or compromising accuracy, so that the panel could make informed decisions based on our recommendations.

Action

I prepared a presentation that focused on visuals: I used analogies comparing the regression model to a recipe where each ingredient (variable) has a different impact on the final dish (outcome). I also created a one-page summary with a simple chart showing the key drivers of purchase intent, labeled in business terms like 'price matters 2x more than delivery speed.' During the Q&A, I avoided technical jargon, instead saying 'we are 95% confident that...' I practiced the presentation with a non-business major friend to identify confusing parts and refined my delivery.

Result

The business sponsor nodded throughout and asked insightful questions, while the dean praised my ability to bridge technical and business perspectives. We received a high grade and the sponsor offered to share the insights with his company. The experience boosted my confidence in client-facing communication.
