What attracts you to a career in management consulting, and why do you want to join Bain specifically over other firms?

Situation

During my sophomore year, I attended a case workshop led by a Bain consultant who showed how they helped a local social enterprise expand to new regions. I was struck by how data-driven insights could create tangible social impact.

Task

At that point, I wanted to explore if consulting could be the right career to combine my love for analysis with meaningful business problem solving.

Action

I proactively sought out two project-based internships: one with a startup accelerator where I built financial models for early-stage ventures, and another as a research assistant for a Harvard Business School case study on a Philippine conglomerate. I also joined the university consulting club and led a pro bono project for an NGO, where I applied basic hypothesis testing. I networked with Bain alumni to understand the firm's generalist model and culture of mentorship.

Result

Those experiences confirmed that I thrive on diving deep into unknown industries and that Bain's collaborative, results-oriented environment aligns with how I work best. I decided to target Bain specifically because of its track record in private equity and consumer goods in Southeast Asia, which matches my career interests.
