5 Salary Negotiation Phrases That Actually Work in PH Interviews

"Basta may sweldo na, okay na" is the instinct a lot of us were raised on, and it costs Filipino professionals real money over a career. Negotiating doesn't have to feel confrontational if you borrow the framing below.

"Based on my research for this role in Metro Manila, the range is typically โ‚ฑX to โ‚ฑY โ€” where does this offer sit in that band?"

This puts the number on the table without you having to name your own figure first, and it signals you've done homework rather than just asking for more.

"I'm excited about this role. Before I confirm, can we talk through the compensation package?"

Confirms enthusiasm first so the ask doesn't read as reluctance, then opens the door without demanding anything yet.

"Is there flexibility on the base, or is the structure fixed with room in the allowances/HMO/leave credits?"

Many PH employers have more room in non-cash components than in base salary. This question finds it without forcing a hard no on the number they already quoted.

"I have another offer in a similar range โ€” I'd genuinely prefer to join you, is there room to match it?"

Only use this if it's true. Recruiters in the same industry talk to each other more than candidates expect.

"Can we revisit this at the 6-month mark based on performance?"

If the answer is a firm no on the number today, this converts the conversation into a documented commitment instead of a closed door.
